Vintage Danish Comedy Porn… “I Tvillingernes tegn” and other gems by Werner Hedmann

"I Tvillingernes tegn" 1975

For those of you who don’t know me so well, may not know that far form being a party girl, instead my downtime often consists of glasses of fine rum and obscure vintage films – generally those that fall into the smut and erotica variety. These films are often so obscure that when I bring them up in conversation, sadly, noone else has ever seen them!

My plan is to start to chronicle some of these little known gems, in the hopes I can little by little, share them with the world.

Most recently, I’ve had the immense pleasure of watching the “Zodiac” films of 1970’s Danish director Werner Hedmann.

Hedmann specialised in an unusual brand of comedy/porn – think a CarryOn film with lots of nudity, Benny-Hill style chase scenes and the odd hardcore sex scene thrown in for good measure.

Last night we watched “I Tvillingernes tegn” – “In The Sign of the Gemini” (1975).

Set in what appears to be perhaps the 20’s or 30’s (if you’re looking for period accuracy, you’re in the wrong place!), In The Sign of the Gemini follows the story of two record producers both trying to sign the same singer (even though everyone admits she’s really not that good). The way to win? Why of course, kidnap your competition! Except, oh of course that’s right he has a virgin twin brother… The aim in most of Hedmann’s films seems to be quickly set up a farcical premise (often involving mistaken identity, virgins, nymphomaniacs and the like), and from then on its just goofy good fun.

Highlights include some fabulous nude or semi-nude dance sequences, the fabulously comic facial expressions of Ole Søltoft (who despite being the star of every movie, somehow gets to miss all the hardcore action), and a plethoria of Danish women with incredible bodies who like to sleep with strange looking men with silly faces. Plus there’s great costuming, an obsession with muff (and shaving it with lots of foam!) and just generally absurd plots and exaggerated characters.

IMDb seems to give most of these films 5/10 but I think they missed the point. If you’re after a good smutty vintage romp, the Europeans win every time.

Here’s some pics from In The Sign of the Gemini.
